USS KEARSARGE LHD-3 Product Description
The USS Kearsarge is a 40,000 ton amphibious assault ship of the Wasp class. She was laid down in 1990 and launched just two years later in 1992. As with all ships of the Wasp class, she is designed to carry nearly 2000 US Marines into battle, deploying them via landing craft, hovercraft and helicopters. Wasp Class ships also operate offensive aircraft including AV-8B Harrier IIs and AH-1W Supercobra helicopters. Defensive armament includes Rolling Airframe and Sea Sparrow surface-to-air missiles, as well as 20mm Phalanx automated cannons. The USS Kearsarge has taken part in operations in the former Yugoslavia, Albania and, most recently, Libya.
Revell�s re-issued USS Kearsarge is packed into an end opening box, printed in the familiar turquoise colour that the German firm use for all of their maritime models. The model itself is made up of 142 parts moulded in grey plastic.
