Chasseurs Platoon (Plastic) Product Description
Flames of War is a miniature wargame set in World War II. Players control armies of tanks, infantry, and artillery, battling for supremacy on the battlefield.
The section de fusiliers-voltigeurs (fusiliers-voltigeurs platoon) is another example of the French infantry\'s perfect organisation for trench warfare. The platoon has a small group of rifle grenadiers with the Tromblon VB grenade launcher in the platoon headquarters to knock out machinegun nests, and three groupes (sections) of fusiliers-voltigeurs.
The demi groupe de fusiliers (shooters half-section) is the base of fire, delivering a fusillade of shots from their MAS modele 1936 bolt-action rifles and the squad\'s Chatellarault FM modele 1924/29 light machine-gun. Under the cover of this fire, the demi groupe de voltigeurs (manoeuvre half-section) vaults out of the trenches and sprints across No Man\'s Land to assault the
enemy trenches.
Most reserve divisions retained the old Berthier modele 1916 rifle and some even had the old Chauchat FM modele 1915 light machine-gun, but all had the excellent Tromblon VB grenade launcher.
A Peloton de Chasseurs portes (light mechanised mounted platoon) is composed of well-trained, well-equipped and well-armed troops with twice the number of light machine-guns as normal infantry. More importantly each squad of Chasseurs is carried to battle in a Lorraine VBCP (Voiture Blinde de Chasseurs Portes) 38L. Based on the Lorraine 37L Tracteur de Ravitaillement (supply tractor), it can carry up to ten men - four men in an armoured cargo bay and six more in an armoured trailer.
This made the French Army the only combatant during the Battle for France fielding battalions mounted in fully-tracked armoured personnel carriers, and the only country with whole battalions of infantry in armoured personnel carriers in each of their armoured divisions at the start of the war.
