The first true Soviet mount purposely designed to allow machine-guns to be utilised in an anti-aircraft role was designed in the late 1920s by Fedor Tokarev. The design mounted four 7.62mm Maxim machine-guns in a side-by-side configuration and was adopted for service in 1931.
