Amazon Warriors (24) Product Description
The Amazons were a fearsome conglomeration of tribes, thought to be from Scythia (north of the Black Sea) whose warriors were women. Famed for their archery, skill at arms and horsemanship, these women warriors struck terror into the hearts of the (all male) armies of the ancient world. They fought on the side of Troy in the Trojan war (their leader was slain by Achilles) and they invaded Greece in an attempted sack of Athens and to regain their queen, Antiope, who fell in love with Theseus, leaving her tribe to live a more \"civilized\" life with him. Pompey the Great wrote that he fought against a contingent of Amazons in one of his eastern campaigns and Julius Caesar was said to have known of and acknowledged their existence.
This set contains enough figures to make 24-Amazon warriors. With a ton of weapon options, they can be armed as traditional hoplites with spear and shield or as archers with their fearsome bows. The can also be armed as javelin women, swords women of given pikes and used in Macedonian style phalanxes (no doubt as an elite force employed by Alexander or one of the successors).
