Although the undisputed leader of the Newborns is the mysterious Master, Penrod is his deputy as well as the highest authority within the army. Major of The Order of the Geared Eagle, both The Engineers' Guild and The Alchemists' Guild are under his command. This means that Ixxen The Hammer and Doc. Jarvinia are under Penrod's command too. The only exception is Ovreuc The Last Face, who only obeys the Master.
Assassins are also at Penrod's disposal, so he can use them whenever he needs them for any mission, along with all the other resources of the Newborns. He will usually command fusiliers, war engineering devices, assassins or the small Kluchs as well as grenadiers carrying inventions of The Alchemists' Guild.
According to rumours, Penrod is a former Equestrian Heart of the Legion of the One Hundred Hearts, a brave and experienced knight whose skills for battle caused equally fear and admiration among his enemies. The fact of the matter is that Penrod joins battle brandishing a lethal stick with sword blades on both ends, a weapon more typical of the Legion than of the Newborns.
Wearing a suit of amour made of the highest-quality oricalcum, this warrior can face and beat the best combatants among the enemy's lines thanks to his battle expertise.
The major of The Order of the Geared Eagle wears a mortuary mask for the battle. Designed by The Assassins' Guild, the mask's venomous outflows instil fear into his enemies, who will be gradually filled with horror at the sight of him. Penrod himself ordered the mask to honour his Master, who always hides his face beneath a leather mask.
Penrod always joins battle with Verner, the small Kluch that the Master himself ordered for the Major's team-mate. This Kluch, the skillest combatant among others of his kind, is a valuable support for the Newborn leader because he joins battle at the same time as Penrod and covers his back when fighting.
