Coal mining has now become an inherent and lucrative business for farmers in the Ruhr Valley! The tunnels dug are deeper and deeper through the use of iron. Waterways are implemented to help drain off contaminated water. The majority of the population earns its living exclusively through coal mining and delivery of black gold to street vendors and the first barges of coals down the river gave the valley and the area its name: the Ruhr.
